I was one of those skeptical chicken persons who wondered about quail. Even after I got my blue scales, I still wondered. I mean, the blue scales aren't friendly. Still, I tried to get coturnix. I have 10 cots right now.

Oh my. They're friendly. Tame. They make cute vocalizations. And they jump when startled.

And they lay a bunch of eggs.

Yeah, I get it. I love my coturnix. They're fun!

Honestly, the Coturnix are awesome. EASY to care for. Now I just have to figure out how to hatch them all. I have a brinsea mini and I need quail inserts.


You are right. The first three days they go jumping everywhere, bumping their heads.

I assume it's a defensive mechanism. But straight up seems odd. Maybe one of you can tell me why this would work, when they land close enough to the spot they've been in.
