This morning I am laying in bed and Bessy, my dog, comes asking to go outside at 6:30. So i get up and let her out, and then go lay back down, didn't even look outside...about 5 minutes later i hear one of my hens bocking, now the roosters have been crowing since about 4:30 as usual. i thought they were coming down from roost and that was the reason for the commotion. Well wrong, the pour hen was taken off. she is gone. I could kick myself for number one, not looking outside to check things out when i let Bessy out and two for not getting up when i heard her. ahhhhh. i am so upset with myself.

That happened to me once with my lamb...heard her baaaaing and I was tickled that she was enjoying her time grazing out in the yard. It was a while later that I found the reason why she was making so much noise was because the neighbors dog had broken into the yard and was eating her alive. Talk about GUILT!!! It's happened to the best of us...I'm so sorry.

pretty sure it was opossum or raccoon, they are our worst predators. i plan to set the trap tonight and catch the little

I can't get her cry out of my head....ahhhh

So i get home tonight and go to check my flock and gather eggs, and what do i see the hen i was missing sitting in an old nesting box...there she was, she has gone broody, i swear she was not there last night. She was on the roost. Could she have gone to the nest box so early in the am???

I am just so happy she is back. so my redneck hens, are all intact...
