I've always had a love for animals but have always put my nursing career above my personal live, for 33 yrs. A few years ago, I started day dreaming about maybe someday owning dairy goats and studying on it. Well, knowing that that's all it was, a dream, I decided to start small. I started studying on chickens.

In March, I bought 4 barred rock pullets and 2 mixed banthams at Royal King's grand opening in Circleville, Ohio. I didn't think that I would end up with 2 very strange looking fellows in the bunch!

I was surprised about all of the poopy mess, but I still love them. I find myself over washing my hands. I wonder if this is because it's a new change for me or my career making me ocd. There is a lot of super infections out there in hospitals and long term care facilities that are difficult and impossible to irradicate.

I even tried to pen potty them. Ha, Ha! I put 2 potties in the pen. One in each of the back to corners of the pen with a perch over. There is more pooh in the pots than anywhere else.

Marylin and Trixie wading in ice water.

It looks like you are doing a good job. one of two of the little bantams are golden sebrights, if you were wondering. And i think the other is a de-uccle.

Pretty birds. I tried to train my chickens to poop in a box full of dirt, but all they did was stratch around in it.

At first, it seemed they only went pooh in the potties and never scratched the sand and dirt out. But, now they are scratching it out and not using as much as they were. Only difference it the color of the tarp over the top of the pen.
