Oh it's ON now

I live in Washington state, and ever since our legislature passed a law banning hunting with hounds and leg-hold traps, our coyote, raccoon, cougar, and bear populations have skyrocketed. We have a bunch of tree-hugging environmentalists up here that will do anything to "save the animals". They just don't understand the ramifications when they allow predator populations to get out of control. My DH is an animal control officer for the city (among a myriad of other "titles") and they had a call for a loose sheep that was wandering around a restaurant parking lot on the main highway. They caught it, brought it back to the city maintenance yard, and turned it out in a fenced 5-acre piece surrounding the water tower so it could eat happily until they located the owner. The next morning, all my DH found was the skull (stripped clean) and some vertebrae. The coyotes got it. Right in town. And people are posting "missing" signs for their little dogs and cats and are wondering who is "stealing" them...

HAHAHA!! I mean, I'm sorry about the loss of your cochin, but I loved the tone of the post. I choked on my coffee when I read "Let's dance chicken breath!" I think that's my new catch phrase.

Sorry for your loss. You sound like someone I could be friends with....I like funny people. I do have a question for you....are your chickens free ranged, in a run or what? Just curious.

Give it time and you will have your hunting back. Mother nature will do what she does best and you will soon have many problems with the varmints. I seem to recall the stories of bear hunting being eliminated in new Jersey. After 2 years it was back due to bears showing up in the citys. Once fluffy and rover stop coming home never to be seen again someone will get a clue!

So after the dance, some other coyote will move in to take the dearly departed's territory. Can you fence in your chickens?
