Oh my goodness! I just did it!

First time for me to mail order chicks as well. I'm getting MPC's 25 Pullet Rainbow special shipping 9/21.

I asked the new Rep which Hatchery they come from but she said she didn't know. Do they come from different ones depending on where in the US you live?

Do you really need to open the box at the PO to do a count?

Congrats to you shelleyd2008. My first twenty six ship this Wednesday. I'm so excited I was thinking about sleeping in my truck in the USPS parking lot, but I only live four miles away and Homeland Security might not buy my story. I ordered mine two weeks ago so this has been me:

The only reason to open the box is because the hatcheries require a USPS employee verify any casualties in shipping for a refund/credit on the ones that might not make it

Its really up to you if you think you'll need to file a claim or even want to. Good luck!!

I waited until I got home and opened my box and all were fine.

I always open mine at the PO - never had a DOA yet. I've had some listless ones, but no doa.

The box is such that you can still "lock" it shut after cutting the straps off it. The cardboard tabs will bend or turn so it can be held shut.
