oh my gosh a black snake help!

Years ago, I had a broody hen, whose eggs became fewer and fewer, and one day found a snake with its head under her taking eggs! And she just sat there. I don't remember what kind of snake it was, this was 40 yrs ago in Arkansas.
As for keeping snakes out, that's easier said than done. They can climb vertical walls and get in tiny holes. Here's either a black snake or a Texas rat snake in our yard last year, trying to get into the pump house. I opened the door to let him in, since there are mice in there....

Hell, I could climb that wall. Shear wall and detached from wall are options I employ. Get yourself a pet snake and learn its limits. The teach others how to get things done rather rather give up.

i just thought i'd let you all know that i have 2 confirmed reports from friends who have witnessed a black snake constricting and killing their hen(s). they try to swallow their heads, but can't. you will know bc there is a slime left on their heads. this is important information as i have NEVER heard this before, and only heard what we all thought, that black snakes do not harm the chickens. we need to spread the word. i will start another thread.
