Do hens lay eggs everyday? every week? I was under the impression that there were certain seasons that hens lay. I know every bird is different but what is the overall concessus.

Gosh I'm such a noob when it comes to chickens.

A good chicken will lay 1 egg every day, when they start laying.

Depends on the breed. A good chicken will lay 4-5 eggs a week.

They do generally lay an egg a day. Exceptions can be extreme heat or cold, molting, sickness/stress, being broody, not receiving enough light (that's usually why a lot of older chickens stop/slow down in laying during winter). . . I'm sure there are others I am missing. You might be thinking of other types of birds.

I guess I don't have "good chickens" because I don't get an egg every day.

Like Higins said, 4 or 5 a week is about average, at least for my silkies.

Didn't mean to put anyone's hens down, I guess I should have specified. I forgot about the different breed thing too

It also depends on the age of the hen too
