Oh no!! Do only roosters fight like this? 5 and 6 weeks

I’m guessing the Marans is male.

I think so too... what's that saying about strutting around like cock on a walk ....something like that? When I see him strutting around that's what it reminds me of. The breeder says she's not sure bc he's all black but he just seems different.

The first thing that happened was the grown hen walked near the fence and the Orloff flew up at the fence. Then when she came back down she and the ee got into it.
Likely as not one thought the other was attacking. I've had that happen with chicks, one comes rushing in behind another, nothing intended. 2nd chick goes into "fight or flight" mode. After a short scuffle they are like "Oh, it's you" and both wander off.

That's what it seemed like bc the EE chick kinda fades into the background typically... it was surprising. One Orloff has always been extra curious and smart and I think she's the one that tried to attack the hen... she's even gotten out before and we still don't know how. My son was like hey ur a chick and grabbed her ... she was fitting in bc she looked like a wild bird lol

That's how my one boy got his name. Trouble. He was young but cocky and I knew he was a boy. He didn't look it right away but the attitude was all male.

:lau Trouble is what DD1 named the accidental Barnevelder cockerel we got last April. All 7 chicks were supposed to be girls, he was clearly male at 3 weeks. She won't eat a fertilized egg (because is COULD become a chicken IF it were incubated which wouldn't happen) so he was trouble.

OP, do you have a much older cockerel or a fully mature rooster that you can place in with the combatants?

No I don't! Would that help? I'm really nervous about this whole having roosters thing! I had four hens and decided it would be cool to sell free range colored eggs... so now here I am with maybe roosters and not totally new set of behaviors ! Lol

My son is 11 and kind of unexpectedly has become really attached to the chickens we had from last year. He takes care of them and it's not just a chore it like matters to him ... he'll stay out with a flash light in the rain looking for one of its not in the coop etc .... but now he won't eat chicken!!!! Which is very inconvenient! For me!!
