I was candling some of my Self Blue D'Uccle eggs today.

I was sitting on the floor candling. This one I was looking at has a moving chick in it and I can not believe it! The egg rolled out of my hand and smacked right onto my hardwood floors.

This egg will be on day 18 tomorrow I re-candled and saw the poor thing moving but I cracked the shell on the egg. No bleeding... hard to tell if I torn the membrane but I figured no blood so hopfully I am ok on that one.

I put it in my hatcher I figured since the egg was cracked I did not want the membrane to dry out and tomorrow is day 18.

Has anyone here dropped a day 17 egg and had it hatch out I am so upset these are my DD's show birds!

I wouldn't worry about it, it is about to hatch. There should not be enough liquid in it to ooze unless the humidity is too high.

I did the same thing a couple weeks ago and just went ahead and set it in the hatcher and the little thing made it out just fine.

Do not seal it with wax.

Thank you everyone for your help.

SpottedCrow I thought the same thing you did. Dring out so that is why I placed it in the hatcher. The humdity is between 65-70% so I figured the crack would be like a pip.

Farmer Kitty, I am on day 18. Well today is. With it at day 17 when dropped and now day 18 today it should not leak as there is nothing but a chick in there, yes if it was earlier I would have sealed the crack I have done that before on eggs that arrived cracked.

pips&peeps, that is great that your's made it I really hope this one does to!

I need to change my user ID to ButterFingers. I heard peeping in the hatcher last night I am not sure if it was from this egg or the others in there. I was keeping my fingers crossed it was from our dropped one.

We shall see how this plays out!
