Oh NO, I'm getting the itch again! Using a guinea????

I've let chickens hatch guineas, but I wouldn't do it the other way around. They just aren't the most reliable moms, and nesting out the way they do, are much more vulnerable to predators.

My broody hen hatches most all her batches of chicks outside....just about 10 feet from where the guinea made her nest too. The broody does fine, nothing ever bothers her nest or her chicks she raises outside.....but that is a bummer about the guineas. I feel bad for her now...she wants to be a mommy

I hate to see her eggs go to waste so I guess I will start collecting the new ones (if she lays any more after my finding her) and blow them out for decoration or eat them......

ETA: After I went and fed everything this morning I didn't see my guinea come eat so I go to where her nest is and she is still there. Poor girl, too bad they don't have a good rep for mommies. I think I will give her a chance anyways. I will take some of my chicken eggs and put under her....if she loses them or isn't a good mom it won't be a big loss like it would be buying some special eggs for her to sit on. She deserves a shot at being a mommy with all those eggs she has laid!

Well, I did it. I gave her some RIR, BO, and BR eggs to hatch out. She went right back to sitting on them too. Hopefully I can at least use her as a bator
