Oh no, they pecked through one of their eggs. :(

It's mostly my own fault. We unfortunately cannot reach the egg box right now without opening one whole side of the coop, and it was so cold last night. I just left the egg in there. Bad decision. I went out this morning and they had taken it out of the egg box and pecked holes through it, and I'm assuming ate some of it.

What can I do for damage control so this doesn't happen again? (Besides removing eggs right away, which I will try to do to the best of my ability.)

I feel so stupid.

Blow out an egg, fill it with mustard, and then leave it in there for them to try and eat. They HATE mustard.

make sure they have water to wash out their mouths!!!!

you could also put in ceramic eggs, and after a few pecks they might stop, if they feel pain!

I was going to suggest stew, but the mustard trick-egg works too.
