Oh No!!! This has benzocaine in it!!!

It is possible that in tiny doses, it wont hurt, but we never know if a product has too much in it and our bird will just keel over dead. I still miss Hawkeye so much! I'd just rather steer clear of all things containing the "caine" ingredients. The exact product was Tri-Care Wound Ointment. Just saw it in another feed store. Says it's all natural, but as we all know, some things are naturally deadly. And I believe applying to broken skin, in particular, especially something with lots of blood flow like comb and wattles, is the worst thing to do. Gets into the bloodstream quickly that way.
John, glad you didn't use that on your turkeys' wounds!

Cynthia, oh, but I did. The bactine is 1% lidocaine

Guess that even fools get lucky every now and then. (need a kick in the butt smiley for this).

After reading your posts on Hawkeye's untimely demise I felt like wiley coyote having just stepped off the edge and waiting for gravity to do its bit...

Maybe the bactine has it in smaller amts or you just got lucky, John. Most of us dont really read the ingredients on antibiotic ointments, etc. And one made specifically for animals, you just wouldnt think it would have anything harmful in it. I found out since Hawkeye passed that benzocaine is what they use to euthanize frogs in labs. Shuts down the nervous system.

wow, this is so scary. I will be telling the grain store and getting rid of that kwik stop out of our chicken first aid.
Our roo looked great tonight other than being bloody from the fight.
Hope I don't find any suprises regarding him in the morning.
Thanks everyone.
