Oh no...

I personally think dry incubation should be used with still air models only. I have both types and the water evaporation on the still air versus fan model is VERY different. In my still airs, the water can last the entire 21 days without a refill. In the fan models the air can TOTALLY evaporate in 3 or 4 days. So, basically what is happening is the eggs are in a dehydrator, sapping out moisture, regardless of what the hygro says.

I have all still airs and it still doesn't work for my eggs. I do think it would be even worse with a fan. That's part of the reason I haven't tried adding one. I have no trouble with the temperature layering in a still air.

Yeah I'm still holding out hope for at least a chic or two. I shouldnt have started with expensive eggs, but these are the chickens I want. sigh.....
Lesson learned. I need higher humidity in my bator than dry hatching provides.

My last batch of seven eggs I had one that had a huge air cell. Over half the egg was air and I was ready to throw it out but my son said no give it another day. Well 6 hatched and 7 waited an extra day but it hatched. Don't give up, good luck

I hatched 2 cuckoo marans and 4 Black Austrolopes. I now have 1 cuckoo roo 1 cuckoo pullet, 2 BA roos and 2 hens.

Roo's will be stew when they crow ,so I ended up with 3 hens. I wanted pure breed otherwise I would have ordered pullets from Ideal.

I am disapointed and not sure I want to hatch again after the 8 in my bator now.
