Oh no!

Sorry for your loss. They did mail mine on Tuesday even though we had a Wed ship date and Ideal never contacted me at all with any ship time so they arrived a day sooner than I planned on-luckily I was at home when the PO called me or they would have sat there all day.

i dont like it when they get an attitude! they should be happy to help their customers! thats why i dont like meyer. the lady was rude and when i sent the check and a day before they were supposed to send them she said "sry but someone else sent in a bigger order so we had to go with the bigger order" i laughed and said i would take my business elsewhere

That is rude (plus wrong) to bump you for a bigger order.

I'm sorry, but please let me know if I can hatch anything for you or if we have anything hatching you might like, I'll be glad to get some to you.

Have a blessed Valentines day

this is why i dont deal with mc murry! and though i have never dealt with ideal, i either hear super great or absolute horror. no in between......so i dont know how to react to that. i cant imagion having to accept the shipment of very dead peeps. i have never even once gotten a bad result from cackle.....maybe try them next time.

I will never have chicks shipped until April from now on. I received a shipment from Ideal in March. They ship priority which means the chicks had no heat three days. Once I recieved them I only had 4 out of 25 alive and they were little icecubes! They did credit me the dead ones but so very heartbreaking to know they suffered.

oh man, 4 out of 25? thats terrible! i just CAN NOT understand WHY ON THIS EARTH any hatchery wouldSHIP PRIORITY MAIL! priority is 3-5 days, the peeps only have a 3 day yolk supply, any longer than that and youre on borrowed time! ANY hatchery shipping that way has serious problems, its inhumane to do that. im sorry about the rant, i mean, i eat my birds, and everything but shipping priority is irrisposible.

if ideal ships priority...then that settles that, i wont order from them, they can go on the same list as mcmurry, which should be taken to task by someone, thats my story.

Well the PO called again, or i should say an employee called me . he delivered them on his own time just because tomorrows a holiday and he wanted them out of there.

Looks like they were Buff Orpingtons and A few EE'ers.

Poor chicks, if i had not ordered with a non refundable gift certificate I would just say dont reship.

We also ordered chicks from Mcmurry. Out of 50, 21 were dead on arrival, and all but 2 died within 2 days. They were very nice and are sending replacements this week. We expected them to have some kind of heat pack since they were taking orders this early in the year, but they didn't. But the weather has been unusually bad.

Just like last year, sad stories of poor babies dying.

My hope is that many more folks will become aware of the perils of shipping when it is too cold, when it is too hot.. when there's a holiday, etc. Sadly, one cannot count unequivocally on hatcheries caring enough to make the right call.

If ordering from a hatchery, the best chances of good outcome are to wait till good weather along the entire route, no exceptions.
We all need to spread the word about this sort of thing and for those of you experiencing this sad outcome due to hatchery folly, let hatcheries know that sending out another shipment of babies after a failed delivery does not erase the lives snuffed out.. and that their mishandling will be shared with fellow chicken keepers. While they should compensate the recipient monetarily, this cannot begin to compensate in a significantly more meaningful way....the babies still suffered and died.
