Yes, thanks you. I think you may be right. We are just going to finish building our "purtiest little coop ever" and let our ladies speak for themselves come fall. I am not sure what else to do at this point.

In my experience, I would let her settle down. When you drive by and see she's outside, politely wave and smile. If you hear that her or her husband become ill, bring over some groceries or a meal. Kill her with kindness. Everyone will see your effort and she's the one who will have to eat humble pie, in time. Hang in there.

It does not pay to try to live and let live, apparently.

I'm just glad they'll be in the keys all summer.

This is pretty much what my husband did. He told her that we are concerned about the same things, and obviously will not let there be sanitation or other issues. He is a very good person to talk to... I tend to get upset too easily. I hope that they come around when they see it is not a problem.

Hathawayhens; just remember that when a person flies off the handle like this, the person complaining JUST WANTS TO KNOW THAT YOU CARE HOW SHE FEELS. There is really nothing you can say to appease her other than letting her know that you care. Your husband opened the door; read my post again and try to talk to her yourself. I know you are afraid of getting angry and making it worse but you won't. Just use the phrase 'bless your heart, I'm so sorry you're upset' over and over if you need to; it works pretty much for any situation...

they'reHISchickens :

I'd keep a copy of your vet degree handy to flash in her face if she questions anything about their health or care.

Don't bother, "You can never win a debate or argument with an opponent who is not hampered by a knowledge of the facts."

Feel free to use the above quote. A similar saying is " never wrestle with a pig, you only get dirty and the pig enjoys it"

There are few recourse's to horrible neighbors. Tall fences, Move to a rural place with no neighbors, Wait til they move (horrible neighbors usually have enough internal disputes, they are self-correcting), ignore them, Play loud music all hours of the day and night and invite the local biker gang to BBQ at your place weekly.

yeah, i will certainly try to speak with her and ask how she is doing... I mean it's not like we are doing this to tick people off!!! We want healthy food for our kids, and really find it enjoying to watch the girls wander around the back yard. If she is every willing to speak with me, I'll let you know how it goes.

We teach people how to treat us. If she thinks her dog crap is okey-dokey for you to clean up then you have taught her that her needs are greater than yours. And if you cow-tow to her temper fit over your perfectly lovely, legal chickens, then you would once again be teaching her that her needs outweigh your own...

I don't quite understand why her disappointment over your chickens matters to you. What could she do or say at this point that would make this all ok? Can't you just be ok with her being unhappy -- sucks to be her? So she's unhappy. So what.

Enjoy your chickens,
Jenny

Your chickens are going to be in your back yard. Out of sight, out of mind. Let it go...
Unless you subconsciously want the strife... otherwise, DROP IT.

What is she going to do? Ask how your backyard chickens are doing? Because she doesn't have a clue?
Unless YOU continue to make it an issue.
