Got a Silkie chicken soap opera going on today… seriously LOL
Everybody was in the yard finishing up breakfast. The boys were throwing around their fluffy hormone soaked cotton ball teenager selves… everybody was totally ignoring them (they’re real ‘chicken’ and will run away screaming and hide in the ‘house’ if any of the big girls even look at them)
One of the Silkie roos (Bean) said something to one of the Silkie hens (Alfredo - Alfie) that reeeeeeally pi$$ed her off big time. She got in his face, bucked up, raised her hackles, and so did he. A little chest pushing, then some chest bumping, then bumping jumping and kicking. She grabs him, throws him on the ground, and the wrestling is on …throwing down, rolling around, biting, dragging, yelling… She was winning, and we had to physically break them up and separate them. After a while when they seemed to have calmed down, we put Alfie back in the yard. Bean said something snide and Alfie was all over him again. This time Bean was removed from the yard.
Then the cutest thing… Alfie went in the hen house and got up on the top rung roost, settled down and went into a pout. My other Silkie hen, Fried, got up on the roost beside Alfie and started talking to her and ’fixing’ her hair... like 2 girlfriends would when one had a fight with her boyfriend.
When Bean was put back in the yard, he immediately went in the house and got on the roost one lower than where Alfie was, stretched up to talk to her (I’m sure he was apologizing) then all settled in for naps.
Chickens are such a HOOT!!!
