I give my birds leftover meat all the time. Yes, even pork and *gasp* chicken.

I don't eat meat that has salmonella.

Chickens are omnivores, they are designed to eat meat and veggies and grains.

That's a great resource, Ruby! Lots of good eats there...a "chicken bag" rather than a "doggie bag" LOL

Actually, though, you CAN feed them meat I wouldn't recommend any pork products, but anything else is fine as long as it's not highly salted and is in swallow-able sized pieces. When we have dabs left over, I just rinse the salt off and cut it up for them...they love it and it's good extra protein for them.

My chicks are about 6 weeks. Still very finicky with any/all treats. Whether feeding from hand or not. Growing up my chickens would love any and all items. You think when the chicks are older they wont be finicky? The only items they eat are mealworms, yogurt with mesh on top, canned catfood, meats. Thx for the scoop on pork. Though I dont eat it myself. I tried the advice from some guy on here about looking under an old hay bale for Rolly pollys. The chicks didnt even go for that! Troubled with treats. Ive tried every idea given to me, to offer them but they wont even try it! Greenbean tips, lettuce, grass, oatmeal cooked and non.. etc etc i could go on forever

Mine are the same...I have too tried to give them many suggested treats. They are very picky turds

They're still very young and will likely need time to decide what they like and don't like. When I put something new in the run they all come flocking over...sometimes they turn up their beaks or just do a few exploratory pecks. I just leave it in there (we clean up what doesn't get eaten when we move the run 3 days later) Some stuff we tried earlier in the season and they didn't eat gets eaten now, and the reverse is true as well. I'd keep trying...make it available and eventually they'll peck at it even out of sheer boredom...and some may discover they like it. With my girls, if even one likes and eats something, the others will try it. They don't all like everything so they just pick and choose.
