Thanks for giving me another way to think about it. I guess we'll just see how this plays out; If he wants petting, great - if he gets snotty in the least I'll explain the pecking order to him....gently, of course...

Well, tonight he didn't knock anybody out of the way but he did want me to pet him. He sat on the bar on my chair like a gentleman and let me scratch his neck and behind his ears, just like the girls. I guess a roo can just 'decide' to be tame...

My roosters like hugs more than my hens do..

^ I still wonder exactly what it is that Liz does to her roos to make them act like that...

Insisting that roosters be treated differently than hens is right up there with insisting on rigid gender roles for little kids. It's archaic and senseless.

All chickens have their own personalities. If your roo is friendly and affectionate and behaves like a gentleman, count yourself blessed!

I agree completely; the only thing is that I didn't tame my roos because they were packing peanuts and I knew they were going to freezer camp. We decided to keep this one and happily found that he is most certainly, a gentleman.

Archaic and senseless? Chickens are not people. They have reptilian (dinosaur) brains. Respect is of the utmost importance. Used to be important with children also, but I guess that too has changed.
