uhmmm i'm a bit shocked, i have a hen (who i know is a hen) today the hubby and I went out to feed/let them out, he noticed that the hen was growing spurs !?!?! She is at least 2 years old and lays an egg every few days.... about 2 weeks ago she became sick and I didn't think she was going to make it, but she did.... wasnt till after that we noticed..... Do hens grow spurs or is she turing into a rooster ?? I do also have a rooster !!!

It is not unusual for hens to have spurs. Mine has them about 1" long and lays 4-5 eggs per week. She is nearly 3 years old.

I don't think that they have any choice. lol. It must be genetic. It does not seem to make any difference to their egg laying.
