Oiling the roosts, what kind of oil?

My roosts are 2x4's that have been primed and painted......do they still need this oil? It seems to me it wouldn't soak in since the wood has been sealed?

I don't oil roosts or platforms- but I use small amounts of food-grade DE in any cracks near the wall and at the back of the platforms and on the ramp. No pests.
