Ok all you Ameraucana-loving peeps~the case of the vanishing blue hue!

Sorry I have nothing to say that even relates to this topic, it's been very interesting. But......

Just wondering valentinebaby if your name is that cause you are indeed a valentine's baby? If so, Then Happy birthday (Sunday)!

Heehee, I was wondering the same thing!

They call me the valentine baby b/c on Valentines day (sometimes the diamond baby) my dad bought my mom a new diamond for her wedding ring (the old diamond fell out and was lost forever). Nine months later I was born.

Happy Birthday Valentinebaby!

Thanks everyone for your input!

Yes, my birthday's on Sunday - last two and a half days to be 53! I was two weeks late and when she went into labor on the evening of the 13th, I think she crossed her legs because if she had gone in before midnight, they would have charged her for a full day! Of course, back in those days, that meant it was probably around $50 or something we'll never see the likes of again! And I was born at 1:50 a.m. - I wish I had inherited her short labors!

I like Diamond Baby! It's sad, after my 3rd huge child, I can't even begin to put my wedding ring back on! Hopeully, one of these days my hubbie will surprise me with a replacement (or at least a resize!)...but, fortunately at my age I won't have another gift in 9 months!

One of our EE's that started out laying really deep olive eggs soon changed to a more standard blue-green'ish color after a couple weeks. Sure would have been nice to have an olive egger but it just wasn't meant to be... My mentor also has mentioned that as the EE's age, their eggs will slowly lose their hue over the course of time.

I have only have two EE ... one lays olive to ugly stone/green/grey and the other lays pretty green AND blue some days...??? they DO change colors from day to day!!! and some days they can be VERY light..almost white?

I wish I had more time but I don't. Just came on to check something and thought I'd try to check the unread posts. Of course, I ain't gonna get through all them other but did see this one.

Let me suggest going to the ABC Forum and doing a search. There has been a good deal of discussion on this topic and some of the "old timers" have a lot of good info to pass on. There has been some studies done and some perhaps reliable evidence to suggest that a diet with a certain amount of (and wouldn't you know I can't remember for the life of me right now what it is) helps deepen the blue.

Otherwise, it's no different that the color variations that are seen in Brown Egg Layers for example.

God Bless,
