Noisy????? I have never had a turkey and was wondering if a female turkey is noisy. I have 10 roo's in the city but i dont want to hear Gobble Gobble lol. Also can they be housed with chickens

Yes, they can be noisy because they "chirp" sometimes and if you have close neighbors it could be an issue. However, it's less noisy than a dog that barks or a rooster crowing. Female turkeys don't gobble. In fact, my tom's ocassionally gobbling is much less often than an alarmed turkey hen's chirps.

we have two hens that are silent as the grave.. and our most ridiculous and LOUD BRhen, Runner, who screams all day! the chirping! the chirping!! ahahahgghgghhghghhghhhhh!!! i think she gave up laying tho and has been quiet for the last couple days.

some folks think that you should keep your turks separate from the chickens b/c of a disease called blackhead that can kill your turks... but not the hens. we keep ours separate - but our lone early poult is still with the chicks of about the same age.

This...

I put new poults in with chicks, but now that the turkeys are older, they are seperate from the chickens. I have one little pullet that prefers to be with the turkeys, but 90% of the time...they are kept with their own kind. Oh, and you will have a noisy turkey on your hands if you only get one...it will get lonely and be extra noisy.

The hens are usually pretty quiet. When it is mating/nesting season you'll know it because they start making the most mournful `whoot' `'whoot' `whoot' calls. This can be pretty loud and seemingly incessant. When you do hear this make sure to keep an eye on them as they'll be wandering off to nest.

On the other hand, turkey hens are the best when it comes to IDing aerial predators.
