OK bird lovers- what is this?

I came across this lovely little broody & a bunch of her friends. It was so strange- if you come close to any of the nests they all start screaming and act like they are injured. Flipping all over- trying to get you away from the nest. I'd love to know what kind of bird it is. Must be native to TN, as my DH has run into them on occasion.

Killdeer do that. the idea is to distract the predators form the nest. You'll want to eat that odd, injured bird instead. Then once you get close to her - off she flies!
 
Killdeer, no doubt. Very cool plovers....they are one of the only shorebirds that can be seen without going to the beach.
 
Yep Killdeer it is. Their chicks are just to cute. They are like chicken chicks. Featherd out and running around shortly after hatch. We have had them nest along side our road in the gravel.
 
My youngest daughter has a Killdeer nest in the gravel outside her preschool. The kids LOVE watching it!
