I am pretty proud of my 7 little banties. They haven't all started laying yet. But it is there first year laying and it is snowing...and they HATE it...and yet they have still produced 67 little eggies since February 5. They aren't all laying yet. I think five are. My little silkies...the TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE layers have laid nearly every day. I recognize the Araucanas egg..and I think I know which one the br has laid but who laid the monster egg yesterday? Do you think that my Araucana that doesn't have the pea comb will lay blue eggs?

The choices are Silkie, Polish, Araucana, Barred Rock, Wyandotte.

Ok..I downloaded pics to my profile..why can't I upload them here?

The big white one is a Costco egg.

Of the hens you have, the Araucana is really the only one that would be laying blue eggs. So far as the pea comb goes, I'm not sure, but are you certain that she's the one laying, and not the other Araucana?

BR's will have a light pink egg, Polish will lay white, and Silkies lay cream. Hope that helps!

It's very possible, since chickens sometimes lay abnormally large eggs. If it's the blue one I'm seeing in photo 43, it's definitely one of the Araucanas. If the huge egg you're asking about is that brown one, though, I'd say it's more likely that it is the BR or the Wyandotte.

Yep it is the brown one...I know "huge" is relative...but compared to the silkie eggs it is a giant...If I saw the brown egg without knowing any better I would think it came from a lf hen. If I were to guess I THINK it might be the Wyandotte..I have seen the br go in and come out and found a smaller brownish egg...but could the size vary that much with a single hen???

Yes, if it's a double yolked egg, it could be big like that. They're flukey, but now and then they happen.

That, or someone is playing a mean joke on you

I am starting to suspect it is my Araucana with the single comb. She was huddled in the pb pig house and I found a larger brown egg in the spot she was laying. They seem to have adopted his house as a place to lay. I have found seven eggs so far...just hope he doesn't lay on one....
