Haha yes, that might raise some questions if he started laying. I was going to ask before - is that single-combed Araucana a mix, by chance?

I think about 25% of them hatch tuftless...so I am not sure that indicates mixed breed...but I have wondered about the comb. I am not sure if a certain percentage don't lay blue egg. But the comb and the egg color together might mean mixed..Oh, I see. I should have asked about that first and saved you some headache - my apologies. Yeah, it does kind of sound like they have a little mix to them, if one is missing the tufts and the other has that single comb. In that case, you're probably right about her laying the big brown egg! If she just started laying, that might explain why it's so big. Crack that baby open and see if it's a double-yolker.
I'm kind of relieved, though, because I kept thinking about the color of the egg and going, "But it seems too dark for a Wyandotte OR a Barred Rock!"
