Ok Eggsperts...Which little girl laid the "Monster" Egg?

Haha yes, that might raise some questions if he started laying. I was going to ask before - is that single-combed Araucana a mix, by chance?

If she has a single comb and is really laying brown eggs I guess she must have some mix in her somewhere...

They are both rumpless. Her sister has the correct comb but no tufts. She is tufted with the wrong comb. Her sister is definitely laying blue eggs. I don't know much about there pedigree...My Dad got them for me from a lady who shows them and these weren't up to snuff..but I wasn't planning on breeding or showing...so I didn't care. They are so funny and I love them. The blue eggs ad a nice variety to my rainbow... ;-)

Oh, I see. I should have asked about that first and saved you some headache - my apologies. Yeah, it does kind of sound like they have a little mix to them, if one is missing the tufts and the other has that single comb. In that case, you're probably right about her laying the big brown egg! If she just started laying, that might explain why it's so big. Crack that baby open and see if it's a double-yolker.

I'm kind of relieved, though, because I kept thinking about the color of the egg and going, "But it seems too dark for a Wyandotte OR a Barred Rock!"

I feel better now.

I think about 25% of them hatch tuftless...so I am not sure that indicates mixed breed...but I have wondered about the comb. I am not sure if a certain percentage don't lay blue egg. But the comb and the egg color together might mean mixed..
