Ok for a perch?

In preparation for our coop, we had to cut down a couple small cedars. I know that cedar chips aren't healthy for birds, but would these trees be ok to use for perches in the coop?
 
The problem with cedar is that it oozes sap. So if you use it for a roost before it's totally, completely dry, the birds will get sticky stuff on their feet. Once it's dry it should be fine.
