I was working around the pens yesterday and a noise coming from my BW quail pen,I look over to find one male on top of the other just trying his best to the DO DEED........I have 2:3 ratio could that be the reason for it?

oh yes for sure could be lol. Most do only trios or pairs, hen and roo or roo and two hens. Quail don't seem to really care who they grab when they're mating LOL.

So even in a pen 2X4 with about 10-12 quail, i would still have to make their ratio not more than 3:1?

Sometimes that won't even work. I have one male that is so dominant that I couldn't put him in a 4foot by 4 foot pen with 8 hens. Within a couple of hours he had scalped the other male. If he wasn't such a beautiful bird he would have been dinner already.

I have never seen one of my quail mating before but all the eggs have the bullseye on them when I crack them LOL
