Ok, I did it. I finally sat down and built an incubator. It's the Lone Cowboy version of Miss Prissy's incubator. I think it's much smaller. I bought the largest styrofoam ice chest, walmart had and still I'll be luck if it holds a dozen eggs.

Here's some pictures.

I haven't put the vents in yet or a way to fill the water, I'm still thinking on those.

I used the glass out of a picture frame, and I'm thinking it's too thin. I might put another one the inside, and make it double paned. Of course it might fog up. I guess that's what testing is all about. Now to find some eggs.

Oh yeah, and I do have a therometer for the water weasle, but it's out with the chick's in the brooder. I'll bring it in and clean it up and put the probe on and we should be in business. If I put too much more stuff in there though, I won't be able to put any eggs in.

You can tape it to the window. Or get one of those .97 cent clear hanging sponge holders with the suction cups that look like a pocket and slip it in and leave your floor space for eggs.

Put another therometer in and working on calabrating it. But the therometers are about 2 deg off from each other (same brand different kind)

Going to have to get a 3rd opinion.

Can't seem to get the humidity up with just one bowl of water. Colorado is VERY dry. Even I have to run humidifiers in the rooms I spend any time in during the winter or I dry up. This could take awhile.

Oh yeah, DH is already complaining about the noise from the fan. He has no idea how long this is going to take. And I don't even have any eggs on the way

You will probably NEVER find a thermometer that reads the same as another.

Try using sponges. Warm water will bring your huimidity up, but not sure if it will stay up.

It may take awhile for your humidity to go up, check it in an hour?

Best of luck!

BTW it looks nice!!

I just saw a LG here on craigslist for $25!

Hi, nice job! I couldn't get my humidity up in the beginning till I went to a flatter wider (more surface), and that did it.
I had three thermometers, 2 matched, so went with them. Karen

You might try a medical grade thermometer to find out which of yours is accurate. You can use the ones you take your own temp with.

Your bator looks great!! Good luck hatching with it.

I have the same white thermometer that you have and it's off by several degrees. I bought a flukers one from petsmart and it's right on the temp and humidity. I even made my incubator with the same cooler you have. I use a sponge to keep my humidity up. Good Luck!

If anyone is interested I got a great deal today on a styrofoam cooler at dollar general it was marked 5.00 but when I went to check out it was .10 because of the summer clearance. It is the Big one that is twice the size of the normal ones.
