My neighbors rooster keeps coming to my house across the road ....I just learned that this neighbors other chickens just all died ...were barfing then died....this rooster is the only surviving one they have and he keeps visiting my yard!!!!!
I asked them to keep him away from my flock several x...they said they have no run or coop.....they just let him run loose...he roosts on their porch at night .
Sooooo...I need to know ...do I need to be worried about disease in my flock now? Should I use some preventive measures to assure my flock stays healthy? I am goin to ''dispatch this rooster'' the next time they allow him to wander over here....if I can get close enough to catch him!!!
(They need NOT know what happened to him ...They have been warned )....I have already asked them once to keep him locked up. But my main concern is : how can I avoid having my flock get sick?? What is the best RX to give them to assure they dont all get sick or die ? I have way too much $ invested in my 25 to loose them to this threat....so I am asking advice from fellow BYC'ERS...thanks!!

I would look up your local ordinances or call animal control and then go knock on your neighbors door to let them know the law and that they need to keep their chickens on their own property. I know here, if your livestock leaves your property it's something like a $300 per animal fine.

Meanwhile, keep your chickens in lock-down mode as the about poster has already mentioned.

we live in a little podunk town of 400+..so doubt if the laws are gonna be enforced....I am gonna go over there to talk to them again tonight and then if he shows up again....He will be dispatched...my main concern is how to treat my flock with a preventative RX that will protect them from this potential threat ? I know nothing about chicken illnesses...so I am at a loss and hope someone here might be able to help me with that issue...?? Thanks in advance!!

Tough situation.
Can you or would you consider quarantining the rooster. I know it's not your responsibility-thought I'd throw out an option.
If you have to dispach the rooster, you might want to get a necropsy to rule out or in any disease, before it gets serious.
I would think that you would not want to treat until you have an idea of the disease, if any. But some supportive care might help. Yogurt, ACV, etc. Good luck.

I would pen him up the next time he comes on your property, and make them come and get him. Not only might you save him from the inevitable (if it's not too late already), but you might be able to figure out what's wrong with him and prevent it from destroying your own.

Here, it's legal to pen up any animal at large that is on your own property. I don't see why it wouldn't be legal there too, especially if it's sick. If you think you'll get in trouble by doing so, then quickly dispatch it when it comes on your own property again.

I'd definitely call animal control though, you don't want to deal with Chicken Black Death and lose all your own.

Do you have an old dog crate or know someone in your town that might be willing to lend one until the roo's been quarantined for a while? The neighbors might be able to keep it on their porch.

I'm sure it was just an expression, meaning, whatever he has.

I would talk to whoever your authorities are and find out the correct way to deal with this. I would think you should have a right to not only catch him but have him destroyed and necropsied to find out what the flock had and whether it is a threat to yours. I would catch and cage him rather than kill him for this reason. (Then take a shower!)

Although, usually the dangerous diseases are respiratory. If they were all throwing up, it sounds like they were poisoned in some way, maybe a poisonous plant or something spoiled.

Obviously, my or anyone's guess is not sufficient; just thought it might ease your mind a bit.

I don't know who you would call -- police, vet, state ag college, animal control if there is one -- but I would think you could get on the phone and find out.
