OK, so everyone seems healthy but...

I have 24 chickens that are a year old and they are on layer feed. They freerange most of the time. What I wonder about is I don't provide any scratch or oyster shells.... Am I doing something wrong? Everyone seems happy (no deaths and getting eggs daily). They freerange 90% of their waking hours. Should I be doing something differently?

The layer feed has calcium in it, so no worries! Also, if they're freeranging they're getting added protein and nutrients that way. Don't stress yourself over something that hasn't happened!! lol I wish I could freerange mine that much, I think the more the better, that's just my opinion though.

Hi! Sounds like you're doing a great job with your hens! Layer feed will provide the nutrition and calcium your hen needs, and nature will provide the grit when they're free ranging. They will scratch up little pebbles and things on the ground.

Thanks everyone, I just hear everyone talking about the different things they provide and I thought.... wait a second.. am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!

Nope, if they are healthy, then you've got it right.

I do the same with mine, now and then they get the egg shells crushed, sometimes they eat them sometimes they don't, they know what they need, and if your chicks are healthy that says it all.
