Ok, so it is a corn predator... but still a predator!

Something is eating our corn right off the stalk. Does anyone have any idea what could be doing this to the corn? We have never seen this before. We couldn't find any tracks at all and most of the ears that are eaten are the lower ears.

Sorry for the crappy pics but I loaned my good camera to someone to use for graduation pics and I haven't gotten it back yet so all I had were my cell phone.

I wondered if it could be rabbits. We have several rabbits that live fairly close to the garden. We just have never seen rabbits do this before. They usually take out the salad mix and some of their other favorites. We also wondered if it could be squirrels. We have boatloads of squirrels. We haven't had them attack the corn before. We have never seen a coon in our yard and the garden is right in front of the chicken coop so I am praying that coons haven't come to visit. That was my biggest concern because I know how dangerous they are to the chickens. I sure don't want to come out to find coon damage to the girls. I am ordering a wildlife cam today so I can see what is roaming around out there at night!

Our squirrels will gnaw a stalk till it falls over and then eat the ears. Funniest thing I ever saw was a squirrel holding a ear like a cigar and trying to climb way up in a tree! He finally dropped it from great height.

a good game cam is what is needed.....one pic and the mystery will be solved and you will know how to go about trapping and getting rid of the mystery predator.....
