Ok, this is what I am feeding the girls, tell me what's wrong?

I have yet to see prof that scratch warms chickens.
All the local farmers up here (in Canada) tell me that it's just a wifes tail and not true at all.

As well on another string here I challenged some one to show me prof and all I could get was opinion.
Where are the studies and statistics that grain warms birds? I can't find them any place.

As I have said before I would love to know that I could feed my birds something to warm them. Until I see the prof I'll work on the info I get from the old pros in Canada

I take my info from a very reputable chicken person with years of knowledge in raising poultry, not some old farmers wives tale... so we disagree

I just think that scratch has more calories per unit, so on long cold nights, there is more heat units available if they eat x amount of scratch vs x amount of layer. However, too much scratch either way is worse than eating more pellets. Kind of like how a box of reces pieces has more calories than the same weight of lettuce. Eating 5 lbs or reces every day will make you gain weight if you didn't use it up keeping warm, while 5lbs of lettuice would probably go right though you and you'll end up cold.
