OK to cover half of the soffits with newspaper?(lot of PICS added)

You could probably cut pieces of blue foam about 5-6" Tall, and then cut them to the length between the rafters(probably about 14 1/2" - maybe slightly longer) and then wedge them in vertically between the rafters. Then you could easily take them out when it warms up.

OH, Wynette! That is a great idea (and easy too)! Just the kind of thing I was looking for! Easy to put in and easy to take out! I hate to ask DH to do more for my chickens than he has already done. Thanks for the nice words on the coop! It was fun and educational to build and now I am learning everything I can on overwintering my chickens.

Thanks bigredfeather! I will have to look in the basement to see if I have some of that blue foam laying around down there! I did not want to put any insulation (the pink stuff) in there because the chicks can get up there (I don't think they stay but when we first put them in the coop, they did fly up there) and I don't want them to eat it.

Never tried it myself but since they can peck apart and eat rigid foamboard and drywall (even with duct tape on it) I am guessing they can peck apart and eat pool noodles too. Wood would be simpler, also stay put better b/c of its weight.

Pat
