It is 90 here in NC and will be >70 from now on. Is it ok to move 3 week old chicks outside? They will be mostly in a shelter so would not be exposed to the elements or direct sun. Also in 90 degrees do I need a fan for them? Is it too hot?

Also, my sister bought these 6 straightrun chicks and I dont even know what I have. At what age would I be able to tell?

Just checking with the experts as only want the best for my chicks.

Thanks

Although the daytime temps are getting acceptable, I wouldn't do it quite yet. The night time temps are falling into the 50/60's and this weekend they are calling for it to be in the 40's. One good chill and you could lose your chicks. Now if you have them in a draft free place with plenty of heat, they should be OK. Just be careful. I was thinking about moving my 2wk. olds to the outdoor brooder, but I'm not going to chance it with the temps getting that low.

I am in FL and have my 4 weekers out during the day, but in at night, just in case... they haven't needed the heat lamp in several days though (has a thermostat), so once our coop is done I am moving them out permanently.
