Hey Everyone- previous newby here!

My daughters hens laid their first eggs last week so I thought I could be only half-newby now. We havent eaten any yet. I'm adjusting to having a PET that gives food from its rear end....

BUT I have a question: She has 10 hens and is getting about three small eggs a day. How on earth do we figure out which hens are laying? I bought those leg ring things, but dont know who to put them on. All the girls share one large hen house, and share 5 nesting boxes. Any ideas? THANK YOU! (and I told her that starting today we'll save the eggs to eat. Oh my. I'll try!)

A friend on here as a joke told me to sprinkle baby powder in the nestboxes and whoever came out with a white butt was the culprit...I am seriously gonna try it though... Can't hurt, as no one sleeps where they lay anyway.

or put food coloring like 3 drops NOT RED in the vent and the egg will come out with a color on the top of it and a simplier way is to measure the pelvis bone tip to bone tip and if its 3 fingers or greater they are laying or about to

My son's red sex link comes out squawking when she's done. She lets everybody know she's laid an egg. She also has the largest and reddest combs and wattles.

Use flour or corn starch, please, not baby powder. Not good stuff for them to inhale.

Some good ideas here. There is such a thing as a trap nest that traps the hen when she enters, which is a sure way, short of watching a LONG time.
