She is a 6-7wk old muscovy... yesterday she was laid out her back.. appeared like she couldn't get up.. anyways we flipped her back over.. all is well.. she acts totally normal otherwise. Now i always check on the ducks throughout the day, i go to check and again she's flat out(this is today).. is there a problem or does she just like to do this and we happen upon it before she moves back.

Kinda freakin' me out a bit

Before their wings are full grown, ducks can't get enough leverage to flip themselves back over when they get caught over on their backs.

So yes, you need to just check them every now and again and make sure they haven't gotten tipped over.

The only time it's happened to mine is when one tripped and fell while getting out of the water. he landed on his back and couldn't get up.

My muscovy duckling has done this a few times, it is really freaky, I had to turn him over both times. Don't remember any of my other ducklings doing this, unless mama helped them because they were with their mamas.

Scared me the first time I saw my little call on his back. Freaked me out the second time. The third time I thought for sure he was going to die. But.....he is thriving and doing great now at 6 weeks-ish.

Ok thanks all, you have relieved my fears LOL none of my other flock(the almost 4mth'ers) ever did this.. so it left me as i said a bit freaked. I do several checks a day on both the younger pair and the older flock, so i'll just probably do a couple extra checks on the 'peanuts'(6-7wk olds) as we call them ..
