Hi. Completely and unexpectedly new to keeping chickens. We found a stray silkie a couple days ago wandering in the open space behind our yard. We didn't want the coyotes to get it, so caught it and are now trying to figure out what to do with it. Checked with the neighbors - nobody is missing a chicken. I believe it's a male, based on streamer feathers on head and tail, but not sure. Don't know the age, either. My kids have fallen in love, so we were thinking about keeping it, but seems like we'd need to have more than one chicken since they're so social. Is it okay to keep just a single chicken? If so, what kind of housing does a single male silkie need?

Honestly chickens get very lonely need companions maybe a 2 or 3 females so one doesn't get overmated if u are able to. Can u post a pic full body and comb shot we try to help with gender breed and age xx

It's hard to take pictures of chickens! Here's the best I was able to get - hopefully these are good enough. Thank you for the help.
