I have a number of chickens in one pen and I have at least two layers. One is laying a rich brown (medium) Jumbo egg. One is laying a light brown peewee pullet egg.
Ages and breeds are:
2 Barred Rocks: 22 weeks (appear to be laying)
2 Cinnamon Queens: 22 weeks (might be laying)
2 RIR: 20 weeks (might be laying)
3 BSL: 18 weeks (do not appear laying yet)
I'm kind of stunned by the Jumbo egg. It is bigger than any egg I've seen from production hens, including what they term Jumbo eggs.
Any thoughts as to who might be laying this one? I've thought maybe the BRs because they're big birds, but maybe not, given the egg is a medium brown.
The reason I'm asking is because I've agreed to sell a couple of BSL to a couple who lost some birds and I don't want to give up my Jumbo egg layer. This bird, whoever it is, started with large eggs and went to Jumbo size. No pullet eggs. Thoughts?
