We're almost done building our new coop for our new flock so figured it was about time to join up so I can show it off. I've been lurking for years.

I'm Diane, homeschooling mom to six. Hubby's a welder who can build any crazy thing I dream up. We got our first flocks about five-six years ago but have been birdless for the last two years or so. Now things have settled down enough for us to have more birds so we bought 30 3-week old chicks from a friend over a month ago. Our sheep had taken over the old, simple coop so we decided to build a nicer, new one up here close to the house. It's *finally almost done. I'll be sure to post pics when all of the finishing touches are on.

Oh, the chicks are about half RIR and half Barred Rocks*, with a couple of Aracauna tossed in for good measure. The lady told us that the BR are Dominiques but, after a lot of reading on my part, I'm convince they're just Barred Rocks. It makes no difference to us either way, though. Out of the 30, we're hoping about half of the are pullets (and it's looking like that's about what we have) and most of the fellas will get acquainted with our deep freeze. We will keep a rooster or two around for protection and breeding. We're completely new to the breeding/hatching game so I'll likely annoy the snot out of you when we get to that stage.

Nice to meet you all!
