Poco - you could do it! I'm sure you've seen the photos of the one Al did - it turned out beautfully - and you have enough incubator experience to know what to look for. Keep looking at those cabinets that way!

Coral it would be great fun to build one , i just dont have the time nor the patience to do it right now lol , i have an old deep freezer i was going to use

My beef and dairy farmer had a nice write up in the Lawton paper this weekend. Some of you have met Grady at some of the auctions he has attended. Here's the article...

A great chicken quote...

"Its diet is more complete if you allow a chicken to be a chicken," he said. "A chicken out on pasture is going to have a healthier immune system. I feel like that makes me healthier, too."

i wish i could let my birds fee range but that is not an option
#1 my nebors have chickens and they are not NPIP and i am
#2 preditors are verry bad here and they would lkill and eat them ( a hethy dead chicken is still dead )
#3 i have 30+ breeds and i need to keep them apart
#4 working on special progects that need to be keeped apart
so i feed the best i can find clean pins often add vitamens and minerals wach for and sines of sickness keep others away from my flock when it is green and i can i give them small amounts of freashly cut grass ( they love it )

Had a great valentines day! Hope everyone else did. I felt productive I love that!

I had chemo and hubby went with me, so it was him and I from 8am til 3:30, no kids! It was nice. I even took a nap! Woohoo! I dreamt about the coop expansion mom suggested. So I came home and mom and I cut the wood and I built the two new nest boxes and then primer/sealed it. Tomorrow I will paint it and then in the afternoon after it dries I will install it. We are enclosing the bottom of the raised coop. That will double our square footage and by the time the chicks are bigger, we will also add a 12ft x 6 ft run to the existing one. All will be portable. We already installed the wheels. It moves so easy now!

So now I am done, gonna add feed to the babies, cause they woke me up at 5:30 am cheaping so loud! I thought they were cold, but they were scratching around for food and their feeder was empty! Piglets! So I added some food, the ate and went to sleep. I swear they eat every two hours! They are growning like CRAZY! They are huge.

Hope everyone else had a great day! Don't ya just love this weather!

Actually, Grady doesn't fully free range most of his birds. He just keeps them on pasture. He runs them in broiler pens (meat birds) or electric poultry netting (layers). Tractors can actually make nice moveable homes for breeders, and the nice thing is you can make them as small as you want.

But I understand what you mean. We all do what we can do. If I didn't have my dogs I would be in big trouble. Over the last couple of weeks 3 or 4 possums have wandered into the chicken area looking for chicken snacks. The ended up doggie snacks, instead.
