Did they change the ordinances? When I got first got chickens in '08 I called and they said no rooster because of the noise. Please point me to the ordinance - I want to know for sure that it's in writing!

I read that too. It just says 6 adult birds and a certain number of chicks. Nothing about roos. We decided not to get them, but when I read it, it seemed legal.

According to my understanding, the Nuisance/noise ordinance applies to Roosters. I'll bet it's one of those "if no one complains, it's okay" things. Here is the Nuisance wording from Title 2 of the the Tulsa City Ordinance:

"Nuisance shall mean any animal which habitually commits anyone or a
combination of the following acts:
A. Scratches or digs into any flower bed, garden, tilled soil, vines, shrubbery
or small plants and in so doing injures the same;
B. Overturns any garbage can or other vessel for waste products or scatters
the contents of same;
C. Chases any person or domestic animal, or kills any domestic animal;
D. Barks, howls, brays or makes any other loud or offensive noise common
to its species or peculiar to itself, so as to disturb the inhabitants of the community;

E. Is at large."

In the BYC Learning Pages - in the Chicken Laws & Ordinances section, the Tulsa writeup has been amended to state that NOISE ORDINANCES MAY APPLY.

I don't really want a rooster - I just don't want anyone else to get in trouble for having one if they want one.

Okay. So here's a picture of my naked neck project bird. It's a long way from finished. I need to work on the back of the neck.

It's a work in progress. We'll see if there's a market for them. Right now there's a big feed conversion problem: they eat too much raw fish.

I'm asleep at the keyboard. See everybody online some time tomorrow.

Thanks for clearing up the roo thing and sorry for any miss information.Now I just have to hope that my 5 yr old sons silkie Popcorn is'nt a roo:fl luckily I live in one of the most culturally diverse parts of Tulsa, the East side,where in the span of two blocks you have 3 mercados and the Naim Hai market so hopefully i'll be able to get away with one roo. Thanks again for getting it all straightened out.( I secretly hope I do get narked on so I can express to my hubby our need to move to 5+ acres i the country for my garden, orchard, bee hives, and all the chickens I can dream of!
