I dunno.....I'm worried about mine too. My chickens are at my work. I live in the country and raise chickens in town (go figure). My birds are warm (central heat and air) I gave them food and water just before I left yesterday 5:30...so mine are warm and have food, but they are so NASTY, messing up the water as soon as I change it.....I can imagine what they are drinking. I'm not going back to town until 6:00 A.M. tomarrow. I hope they are all right. I had about 60 eggs pipping when I left last night. I think they will be all right. Can't help but worry.

One thing I remember from when I first started raising poultry and reading about them was that the birds will drink from a dirty puddle even cleaner water is available - so no matter how much you try and keep things sanitary, the birds that free range will drink what is handy. I am sure your birds will be fine.

Carah,

What is Mexican meatloaf? You should share that recipe.

-Keith-

I think it's another term for tacos, Stimp - or maybe your favorite - tacos with grits!

I saw the actual recipe in a later post, but Beth - I think you forgot to add the okra to the recipe to make sure Stimp likes it.

stupid cold...been trying to get water running all day...so far I have manages to get super dirty (not good when you don't have a shower0 and it appears as though the front meter is now frozen..I guess I am done trying...I shall admit defeat and retire.

wonder how long chickens can go without water....

My main coop is 4'x 10' with a pitched roof about 8' in the center. Technically I don't have the square footage they suggest but they do fine even in this weather. I have aprox. 15-20 in that coop with a run that is 20'x20', I don't lock them in the coop even in weather like this.

Hey Teach, sorry to hear about the water problems, my gloves were freezing to the bucket handles while I was watering animals this evening, I had to fix a water leak the last time we had a bad cold spell, I can tell ya that ain't my favorite thing to do either!!!! How are your birds doing in the extreme cold? It is cold out there where you are right??? LOL Lynn
