Evening, Okies,

Came home from work and found one of my roosters had been killed by a predator. I've seen a big, blind possum several times this week, so I suspect he's responsible. He must have scared the rooster into running straight at the fence where he was reaching in. There is only one small area that doesn't have double chicken wire on it, and that's where I found the remains. I guess it's best to lose your backup rather than losing your head roo.

Had a nice hatch of RIR, a dozen out of 13, so the little tykes are talking up the Silkies in the barn next to the big brooder. I think they'll be okay out there tonight. I've kept little ones in the basement brooder until today. DH has allergies so I'm trying to migrate all the birds out of his airspace. The only birds in the basement brooder right now are the blue Ameraucanas that hatched last week. I want to ooooh and ahhhh over these guys a little loner before they move to the barn.

Been gone for a bit. A very productive week. Caleb Patrick Kerby joined the clan this weekend at 7 lbs, 11 oz. making me a grandpa for the first time. Saved the taxpayers of Lawton $120,000 by locating a free open source integrated library system for our new online catalog. Spent the day today lobbying our illustrious legislature in OKC on behalf of firefighters, trying to save their pension from being gutted.

Really excited that I got my first good size order (200) for processed birds. This should be good seed money to get my production system off the ground for real this year.

Missed everyone, often wonder how you all are doing, but now must go. Early day tomorrow. Night, friends.

I have my ntch coonhound tied up 10 feet from my chickens, and our lab runnin loose...dont worry too much about critters...sorry about your bird though, we lost some last year to some coon....

We have a good dog, but she's still in training. Right now she's learning not to antagonize the guardian donkey in the back pasture. She's making the rounds with me every morning and every evening, but we're not able to leave her in the chicken yard just yet. She thinks the guineas are born to run, so she makes them. She's a work in progress. By this summer I'm thinking we'll have a critter free chicken yard.

You do know them OSU boys used to be Aggies....

Nay...someone made a comment about a guy riding a K-Mart bucking horse and me! I can ride...they won't let me have a rope though unless I am on the ground...something about safety of the horse. I don't understand it myself..
