One student of mine went to Juvi. because she stood in and fought for her friend who is 7 mo. pregnant (a 7th grader).
The gangsters scared me at first until I remembered their ages. The next time one stared me down I stepped right up to his face, looking up, and he stepped back and I said "I thought so". I must have been crazy but it worked and after that I had his respect and no more fear. However, I don't go in their neighborhood after dark and a few of our former students are in jail for murders they committed at age 15 or16 and a few are dead.

- their lives can change so fast. My sweet little chickens are a kind of therapy that helps me deal with the shock.

I have heard about those girl fights...saw a few back when I was in school. We are so small it is pathetic. They forget i came from a larger area and have seen stuff that would spin their heads. We get a few in from big places (Philly, Chicago...) folks sending them out to relatives. They usually don't last long. We aren't impressed with them and expect them to do the work

I heard the neighborhood I moved from in "02 in southwest OKC which was a very good neighborhood when I left was horrible now. Guess its a "hood" rather than neighborhood nowI once read a quote "teach a child he came from monkeys and he would act like an animal. Teach a child he came from God and he would be Godly"
