hatching is going! We had two on Monday that were from my birds but we have like 4 cracks from those that should be out tomorrow and about 20-30 that should be coming out! The kids were starting to get a little wierded out when you could really tell what they were and especially when you had movement once they were cracked!

We didn't crack any open yesterday or today...I was at a funeral yesterday and today we needed to get the rats started on their way to being dissected...I amke them skin them first

it wierds them out seeng it all "naked"! had one girl that wouldn't get close One of them is pregnant so tomorrow when we open them up it should be great because they will have to figure out the gestation using comparative embryo development...should be fun!!

that hydroponics stuff interests me...as soon as I leave the frozen tundra I might look into it...it snowed...and sleeted...and was freakin' cold today!

MM, I noticed your entry and was intrigued.
Was this the recommendation for getting rid of the northern fowl mites or something else?
What was the suggestion on the Ivomec pour on? Did you use the Ivomec to spray the coops and nest boxes too?

Northern fowl mites. its 3-4 drops per bantam and 4-6 drops per large fowl. I used Tempo SC Plus on the coops and nest boxes along with DE. I sent birds off because i sold some chicks that got sick and I had to make sure i wasnt selling any infected poultry. Typical scare as usual. I do try my best to take pride in being NPIP and Raising as healthy a flock as Possible.

what an image that brought to mind!!

on the ivomec- this is what i was told to do monthly like frontline with dogs- only i don't keep the needle on the syrynge

It is Ivermectin liquid (NOT the horse wormer paste). It is the kind for cattle & swine and is off label for poultry. I use 4-5 drops for bantams and 7-8 drops for large fowl. Repeat in 10 days to catch any eggs that have hatched. I got about a 6-8 oz. bottle at TSC and it lasted a long time. Get a syringe with a big needle, too. Those little insulin needles are too fine to get anything out of the bottle.

That caught my attention too, since my little experiment worked so well. I'm hoping to do something similar only more simple in the garden this year, but still on a small scale.

That could be the chicken train for the duckwings that Shavon wants to get from Grace, since you are going to Durant and Shavon can pick them up in OKC.
