thanks. I did find the heat lamp fallen over. And, you're right...part of life. It's always easier if you know WHY they died so you can make sure it doesn't happen to any more! But, you're right...

thanks again!

Titania,
The larger breeds are more prone to sudden death from stress, frieght, etc. they are actually very weak where the arteries join to the heart so if teh lamp fell it may simply scared her to death... Sudden death is not uncommon with the larger breeds especially when they are larger than average from good breeders. We have dealt with it with our Wyandotte and Cochin in the past and will undoubtedly deal with it agian in teh future.

The way the raffle works is that you can put your raffle tickets in a box for only the items you are interested in winning. For instance, if you want to try and win a painting then you put tickets in the box for the painting.
This way, if you win, you will win something you want.
Since we are doing the raffle this way, things for kids and adults will be in the same raffle.
I want to say thanks to everyone who has contributed to the raffle so far. I have received word of several items for the raffle, but we still need lots and lots more stuff.
If you have something you want to part with keep us in mind and use it for a donation item
If you have something to donate, please PM me with the information.

Here are some items being donated.
Six Hen aprons, egg basket, hatching eggs, Rooster and chicken figurines. paintings, oriental tray, six 8 oz cage cups, chicken pictures, fishing poles.

I used to have a 55 gallon drum cut in half long ways for a nest box and the girls would just pack into it like maybe 10 at a time, they loved it and it was right in the middle of the coop..Who knows what they really like..
I also had a 6 month old pullet die a BLRW looked good all over just Dead..Things happen

Robin - your "community nest box" probably won't work well because the hens like the feeling of privacy they can get in a tight fitting nest. You might consider hanging something over most of the length of the community nest box so that it is dark inside - and that might work to give them "privacy"

yep- i ended up putting a couple storage bins sideways in it for now- but it the fav is in the corner hidden away OR the feedbin!

Who's going to Fletcher tonight ??????????????????. Don't forget our after sale dinner at Trivet's LOL, it's fast becoming a favorite.
