Robin - I think if you separated the hens you're thinking of bringing to POOPS and let their feathers grow back you might get more interest in them. If you took them (or sent them with another BYCer maybe) to an auction or swap before POOPS, you'd have more time to plan what to get and to prepare pens for the new clucks! I have been known to get a few fluffies in the spring just to have puffs to raise, but with the full up-front intention of selling them after I watch them develop for awhile. I got a few bantam frizzled cochins and a couple of silkies last spring and raffled or sold them at the last POOPS. It can be hard to let them go.

Not this time I didn't find any at the store either eating or seed. If this works I may do another fall batch and if I find some in time then I will do some purple, don't know how that will be to eat (psychologically)

I planted one bag each of the $3.00 bag of seed potato at walmart of the yukon gold and cal white, then about 4 potatoes each in the other two that were just left over eating potatoes russet.
The rest of the answers I don't know yet, this is my first year to attempt this. I have heard you can get huge amounts per tower, and that in a growing season here you can get 4-5 tires tall.

so around 4-5 seed taters per tower right. and what is the ratio of dirt, leaves, straw mixture per tower. Ok cool I have to make a dump run with my big trailer on friday to dump jobsite junk so I may pick up a whole bunch. I was thinking earlier of putting several 2 tire high planters with squash, cucumbers, and such out near the chicken coop condo to feed chickens with, so that may work this year after all.

AL

The bottom one is filled w/ dirt, but I wasn't about hauling all that dirt, so I dug a spot out where I wanted the tires and partially buried the tires using the dirt I had just dug out. The fluffier stuff (leaves and straw) goes a lot further. So far I have used a large black garbage sack and filled 3 tires about 1/3 full and haven't used my whole sack yet.

morning guys- well the coon was in the trap this morning, but he is not doing well at all, its like he is in slow motion, oblivious to movements, any ideas what is going on with him? he is obviously sick-

He is beautiful! I have seven cochin roos. They are all good at calling their girls over to anything that might be good. I just adore them. I recognize alot of their individual crows.
Sunday one of my 14 week ond pullets caught a little garden snake, about 8 inches long. It was hilarious watching the chase. She was pretty good at the evasive manuvers but Idon't know who actually got to eat it.

that is funny, poor snake- thats when they really remind me of raptors
be beck in a bit, gotta get all the critters fed, watered, dogs worked with- by the way, i have been working with them every morning, and can bring them and tie them near the the runs and the dogs ignore them, in fact pippin by red star walked up to buddy talking to me about it, and buddy didn't move- looks like we may be getting somewhere

Hey Coral - I have been to Admiral a couple of times and always enjoyed it - especially when BigOkie is there. If you decide to go this Saturday morning let me know - I have a couple of roo chicks you might want to sell/trade there! One BLRW, one splash Ameraucana, one blue Ameraucana and I think maybe one black - but I'll have to check again. I'm going by comb color at this stage. I haven't really given up yet on the pretty little crook-beak pullet - I was out there tonight again with the emery board but her head is so small I have to put my fingers over her nostrils and bear down to get any rasp going on that top beak, and I'm afraid I'll injure her. Her head and hackles seem to turn more golden-colored every day.

If you have a Dremel that'll work better and easier. I've done it a few times

Robin, be careful about that raccoon. Any wild animal displaying signs of illnes or acting differently could have rabies. You should probably dispose of it ASAP. This is what I just read that sounds like your raccooon: An early sign of rabies in raccoons may be simply acting in a way that is contrary to normal behavior. These abnormal behaviors may include being especially unguarded or "dumb" (far more friendly or tame than is normal)

Here's a link on the internet with info on signs of rabies in a raccoon http://www.ehow.com/list_5923612_behavioral-signs-rabies-raccoon.html

I've heard of folks using a Dremel, but I don't have one. When DBF Jack comes back from his out-of-town job, I'll ask him if he has one....what kind of tool is it and what are they used for usually?

DEFINITELY put it down, and dispose of the body. Acting that way, it could be rabies or distemper, but either way you do not want to give it a chance to bite you or anything else...

Dr's appointment went well. Even though it was a long way to walk I took the walker instead of the wheelchair and by the time I got home I was tired and went to bed. Must have walked 100 yards at a stretch and I didn't really know if I could do it but I did.

Can't get better unless you push the envolope just a tad every day. And there are so many things that you take for granted that you do every day. An illness like this will really bring you back down to earth!
