maybe your coons are different in your part of the country al, I have seen a fair few coon trapped and none acted sluggish, but either way coon are very intelligent, very bloodthirsty, and also prone to disease, so that right there are 3 good reasons that that one shouldnt make it to see another sunset...

Bait with marshmellows & place traps next to or under bushes (tall grass works too) that are nearby.

What I do is when I bait the trap I put the bait in a tuna can wired to the back of the trap, if bait is left in there loose mice and birds and small critters who won't be heavy enough to trip it will carry the bait off. I put my live traps near the coop cause that's what there intrested in and I don't want them to have a choice, chickens or bait 100ft away.

Okie Dokie you Okies, our big event is fast approaching and we need everyone to start getting excited.
Lots to do before everything is ready.
Al, Sooner and myself and a few others will be posting about needs and ways for everyone to be a part of this. Please help in any way you can.

I have trapped some that were a little off, but most were alert and fiesty and would hiss, bark & Bar it's teeth when I kick the cage. As far as dispatching it I always just do it as quick as I can but also whatever is the easiest way for me, I don't get squimish and don't give a hoot if it struggles.

If I didnt turn them out to train pups, a .22 shell is the quickest and easiest, on everyone involved....I do it to make it as painless as possible, I am not squeamish but I also dont like causing unnecessary pain, I know some people that think it is more 'merciful' to tie a rope to the cage and toss it in a deep creek, leave it for 10 mins and pull cage back out and empty it...to me, that is cowardly and mean, if you are gonna be responsible for trapping it, you need to dispose of it quick and merciful. Just my two cents and many disagree with me...

Hey we are closing in on the big event. Time to think and think again about some items you may want to donate for the raffle. It doesn't have to be a big item or even a new one, maybe just something you have around you can donate.
This is one of the ways we raise funds to help with costs of the event.
It will be set up to where, if you win, you will win something you want.

Since we are doing the raffle this way, things for kids and adults will be in the same raffle.
I want to say thanks to everyone who has contributed to the raffle so far. I have received word of several items for the raffle, but we still need lots and lots more stuff.
Again, if you have something you want to part with , keep us in mind and use it for a donation item
If you have something to donate, please PM me with the information.

Here are some of the items that are being donated.
Six Hen aprons, egg basket, hatching eggs, Rooster and chicken figurines. paintings, oriental tray, six 8 oz cage cups, chicken pictures, fishing poles. Plants, decorative garden rooster.
Decoarative plate set, chicken/pig, coloring art sets (markers, crayons in box), basket with chicken stuff.
Items that tweens or young teen girls might find interesting. Automatic Quail turner. Quail egg storage/shipping racks/cartons.
Hatching trays, hatching eggs.

If you have contacted me about a donation, and I don't have it on the list then please remind me.
Thanks for everyone's willingness to help!
