I'm not sure where your town is......Just a couple of thoughts. Here the birds like to roost in our large cedar tree, don't know if it is the same for pine. Also my inlaws pine tree's seem to drop alot of limbs that could be a problem if you have a covered run. These are just thing to think about because my coop & run are under tree's too & with the ice storms we have had in the past those have been things that have happened to me.

One thing before I go, I used to use pine needles for nesting years back and had no problems what so ever. Would use them on floor or nest if I had some.

would love to get a forest of pine trees going around here- what pine trees can handle the rocky soil? i grew up in southern calif, and there were pines all over

Wow Joe that's some water! Hate to hear of the homes damaged.
Glad you didn't loose any more chicks than that!

Robin you can usually get free pine tree seedlings from the state in the spring, check with the local forestry service or home extension office. I have one that I had gotten from the state (of Ark. Thru a friend) and potted up because it was so small. I brought it with me down here and planted it after we built this house,it's over 25 feet tall now! In just six years!
