its oxine, and it is a very good disinfectant, nontoxic, great for using on eggs, bators, and dipping/spraying chickens. Google it, it is awesome...

Yes Oxine is real good stuff maynard, folks use it for all sorts of good stuff.

Ordered a gallon after reading some articles on it.
Won't need the activator citric acid.
And already noted these uses:
All my hubby's medical equipment can be cleaned with Oxine.
Chickens and houses and equipment as already mentioned.
Feed troughs and water tanks as well as the calving pen.

Pine and wood shavings pull nitrogen to break down in the soil. These should reduce the "burn" effect of the chicken manure. I would mix your chicken litter with some other compostable material like crushed leaves or dry grass clippings before adding them. MHO

Good night all....sweet dreams.

How do you guys know all this stuff? If you compiled all the free information given just on the Okies page it would be a great book!

Thanks for your input Nana...I have plenty of leaves too.

Since baby chicks aren't damaged by the arsenic in the chick starter, I doubt dogs would be hurt by small amounts of chick starter. For some reason however, baby ducks are very sensitive to it and even a little bit of the chick starter puts them down fast.

I second what P&B stated. It doesn't bother cats either.

Have found it in gamebird starter/turkey feed around this area from the feed store that sells shawnee mills feed.
